Strange song if ever there was one. It's pure Kate up until 3:27 then breaks into the lesser known Georgian folk song: "Tsintskaro".
There is a German 1979 film called "Nosferatu the Vampyre" from the infamous film director Werner Herzog that also utilizes this song. Tsintskkaro is a very haunting dirge and it has been used extensively by many artist of the "Art Nouveau" and progressive genre movements. No doubt Kate has some knowledge of folk music from countries located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Tsintskaro is a folk song originating in Georgia and not Romania like many believe. This belief has to do with that film about vampires set in where else? Romania.
Not many westerners are familiar with music from this region which sort of adds to the mystique of Kate Bush. Love the way she added it to this recording. Also love the entire cd, "Hounds Of Love".
I give this very unique feature of yours Dave a BIG 10♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HEARTS! "Cos I loved it:)) Peace........

@EuroGirl Well as we know, it would not be Kate Bush unless it was a little odd or strange, lol.
Yes i think Kate was inspired by that song after seeing the movie, and wanted to use it because of its kind of sinister/atmospheric feel that she wanted in this track and indeed the whole "Ninth Wave" B side of the album with its theme of being lost at see, and how terrifying that would be. (hence my linked video here to one of the other conceptual suite tracks, And Dream of Sheep).
She loved the affect that the Georgian folk gave her works, and although not Georgian she later used the quite similar sounding (well to us at least) female Bulgarian folk singers *Trio Bulgarka* on her next two albums to give her art another unique twist of sound. As you say Amanda, adding to Kate's "mystique".
I remember this video took quite some time to make, not just in actually putting it together but How to hopefully portray the atmosphere and feel of the piece. Thanks Amanda, i really appreciate you input and support. Peace Always.
