Jan BLOMQVIST, born in the 83/85's, is a singer, DJ, and bandleader from Berlin (Germany). The German underground scene has already recognized Jan for the avant-garde artist he is, as it was him who invented concert techno : dreamy vocals and simple beats ! As a kid Jan never cried, just sang and his hippie parents approved, buying him his first guitar. Just as he had learned to play like Keith Richards, he realized he’d rather be like Mick Jagger and then founded his first band in a little village in Lower Saxony With his band BLOMQVIST, composed with Christian Dammann (drummer), Felix Lehman (pianist), Ryan Mathiesen (lyricist), Jan is into dancy electro-pop, but as a solo-artist, he plays clubsoul. Musically, he was educated by Brit-pop bands of the 90's like Radiohead Blur, Suede, Pulp, The Verve. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and Kurt Cobain impressed him a lot over the years with their text writing skills as well.
At age 19, when Jan moved to Berlin, he become fascinated by electronic music, with James Holden and Stephan Bodzin as heroes. With his first money earned he bought an amp, even if the school band didn’t wanting him as a member. Then, at age 21, being an aerospace technology student, he gets acquainted with techno and dawns on him that music and Dj'ing could be a profession. He had the idea to combine electronic club sounds with those melodic and thoughtful Brit-Pop styles but also wanted to bring piano into the clubs without sounding cheesy. To live and also reach his goals, Jan earns money as a bartender at weekend club and spends it on educational trips as Radiohead open-air concerts, Bar25, After Hours. In the daytime, he sleeps and at night, he works on his tracks for hours, convinced than a day soon his realisations will work, with a main idea : shatter the boredom in the clubs, to bring a concert feel to their dance floors, with simple vocals and minimal beats.
And a day things started : in 2011, a gig at fusion festival in front of 3000 people, releases on the -Dantze and Stil vor Talent-. In 2012, a rooftop concert at Weekend Club; the YouTube clip was seen by millions. 350 gigs in 3 years. Jan remembers them all: New York, Moscow, Paris, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Rome, San Francisco, Mexico City, Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam, Milan, Athens, Budapest, Beirut, Tunis, Naples, Bucharest, Warsaw, Zurich, Montpellier, Thessaloniki, Munich, Vienna, London. With his firt album titled -REMOTE CONTROL- 12 tracks, Jan rock with a dark melodic grunge-rock sound as a musical journey : a pinch of Portishead, a dash of R’n’B, Radiohead of course, and the minimal sound of the noughties !
