William Frederick Gibbons, a.k.a. Billy GIBBONS was born on 16 December 1949 in the Tanglewood suburb of Houston (Texas -USA), from Frederick Royal (Freddie) and Lorraine (née Duffy) Gibbons. He is a musician, singer, songwriter, producer and actor, best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist of the American rock band ZZ Top.
His father was an entertainer, orchestra conductor, and concert pianist who worked alongside second cousin, art director Cedric Gibbons, for Samuel Goldwyn at MGM Studios. A percussionist as a youth, he was sent by his father to New York City to study Latin rhythms via conga, bongo, maracas and timbales, in Manhattan with none other than its preeminent virtuoso -Mambo King- Tito Puente. In 1963, Billy received his 1st electric guitar following his 13th birthday, a sunburst Gibson Melody Maker, accompanied by a Large Cat amplifier and was influenced by guitarists such as Jimmy Reed.
