OLD BLOOD or OLDBLOODBLUES is a band based in Perth (West Australia) predominantly playing blues & soul music, which emerge from the local musical scene. It was founded in 2011 by Tony Papa-Adams (Vocals) and Edo Ekic (lead guitarist) joined by their common friend Shaun Liddel-Jennings (bass). After about two years with different drummers they have hired Tyler Ray Michie (drums) and in 2015 added Jules Peet as second guitarist. Adding another guitarist has really changed their writing and performance. Then, this five piece have been making waves in the local scene and their modern blues stylings strung tightly together by the captivating stage presence of vocalist Tony Papa-Adams. OLD BLOOD produces a unique sound that can perhaps be best described as -Grunge Blues-. They explain about their sound - We’re a based band but between the five of us we draw from a wide variety of influences-. They say being influenced by BB KIng, Buddy Guy, Freddy King, Joe Cocker, Taj MaHal, Dr John, Frank Zappa, D'angelo, Peter Green, Tenacious D, Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones and at the moment are listening to artists like J.J. Cale, The Allman Brothers and Pops Staples.
The band has been a favourite at the Perth Blues Club since their first appearance back in June 2011 at Mojos. Since then, they’ve been beating a path into the hearts and minds of music lovers and are proving to be a force not to be taken lightly. They have played at local festivals including Blues at Bridgetown (2013,14,15), Angove St Festival(2014), West Coast Blues and Roots F. (2015), Wave Rock Weekender (2015), Fremantle Winter Music F. (2015), Beaufort Street F. (2015, 2016), RTRFM’s Harbour Sundays (2016). They also have supported the likes of The Kill Devil Hills, The Southern River Band, Harts, Koi Child, Endless Boogie (US), Kingswood, Eddie Boyd & The Phattapillers, Kingswood and Morgan Bain, Matt T Wall and Marshall O’Kell ; and also played for some new venues, like Jimmy’s Den and the Quarry Amphitheatre in December 2015.
In October 2015 they have registered their debut album titled -Live at RADA- in Perth. This debut release with the track -I just want a little bit- and -Lay down- featured the vocal talents of Ofa Fotu (Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics). Gaining the local feature on RTRFM 92.1, the album was launched at The Rosemount Hotel on 2 July 2016, with support from Southern River Band, Pow! Negro and Luke Dux. Off the back of their recent WAM nomination for best blues and roots act, they additionally have headlined their own sold out shows at a myriad of local venues including The Rosemount Hotel, The Bakery (RIP), Mojo’s Bar Fremantle and The Bird.
